We have tried everything to break the habit..including trying the bitter tasting nail polish...nasty tasting food on his thumb..everything. Nothing works. The kid will suck the nasty tasting stuff off of it and just continue sucking! He will eat just about anything, too..so he does not care about taste! We even had his dentist tell us to put duct tape on his thumbs..we tried it once until the duct tape started to come off in his mouth! His pediatrician said to just keep him occupied but he only does it when he is tired and sleepy..so we cant keep him occupied all night long, lol!! You can already see where his teeth have shaped to his thumb! we dont know what else to do!! his twin sister sucks on her three fingers and we have tried the same things with her! she will cough and gag with the bitter tasting things but then just put her fingers right back in her mouth!!
